Gary Neville believes Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp ‘sent a message’ to top four rivals Newcastle United and Manchester United following his side’s 3-0 win at Leicester City.

Two goals from Curtis Jones and a stunning free-kick from Trent Alexander-Arnold helped the Reds to a comfortable three points at the King Power Stadium to move their side within striking distance of a place in the top four. Liverpool now lie within a point of the two sides immediately above them in the table - although both Newcastle and Manchester United hold a game in hand on Klopp’s men as the race for a Champions League place reaching a thrilling climax.

There can be no doubt Liverpool have built up momentum ahead of their final two games of the season and Klopp gave a boisterous reaction in front of the travelling support as they celebrated their side’s seventh consecutive win.

He told Sky Sports: “They (Newcastle and Manchester United) have got a job to do. Jurgen Klopp’s little fist pump at the end, if you are a Newcastle player or a Manchester United player, you recognise that he’s coming for you and I think he’s sending another message that they have to make sure they do it properly because Liverpool will win their two games.

“I think Manchester United and Newcastle have got to forget the idea that Liverpool might drop points. They’ve got to do their jobs or they’ll be out of the top four.”

Liverpool will face Aston Villa on Saturday as they look to keep up the pressure on their top four rivals - although Newcastle could have a four-point advantage on the Reds if they win their game in hand against Brighton and Hove Albion at St James Park on Thursday night.
