Kyle Walker-Peters has already spoken about his future amid transfer links with Newcastle United.

The versatile Southampton star is likely to find a new club this summer following the Saints’ relegation to the Championship. The best players from relegated teams usually get picked off, and Southampton will be victim to that trend this summer, with James Ward Prowse and Walker-Peters likely to move on, among others.

According to The Telegraph, Newcastle are interested in the latter as they look to improve depth and quality ahead of a Champions League season next term.

Walker-Peters has been a consistent performer for Southampton, playing 31 of the club’s 38 Premier League games last season, and his versatility makes him an attractive target. The 26-year-old is a right-back by trade, potentially offering depth for Kieran Trippier at St James’ Park, but he is also able to play on the other side of defence, as well as on either wing.

Given Southampton’s situation, Newcastle may well be smelling a good deal as they look to press ahead with summer plans, and Walker-Peters has already spoken about his future.

Speaking before the end of the season, he said: “There are still two more games so that is my main focus – try and make those results positive and see what happens after there. I’m not looking too much into my future yet. I always see myself in a Southampton shirt, I love the club. I enjoy being here so we’ll see what happens.”

Crucially, he has since told the Daily Echo: “It's tough for me to say right now but I'd be lying if I didn't say I want to be playing in the Premier League. I want to get an opportunity to represent my country again. That's a really big goal of mine, so yeah, those are my personal goals."
