Newcastle United are in talks with AC Milan to sign Sandro Tonali after submitting an opening bid.

The agent of Sandro Tonali has been spotted at lunch with AC Milan managing director Giorgio Furlani and his right-hand man Geoffrey Moncada - less than just 24 hours after Newcastle United’s bid for the midfielder was made public.

In an ‘exclusive’ photo (see below) published by Italian website Milan News, Giuseppe Riso - Tonali’s agent - is pictured around the same table as Furlani and Moncada, who also acts as Milan’s chief scout.

In the article accompanying the photo, Milan News wrote “Sandro Tonali and Newcastle is today’s main topic regarding the Rossoneri transfer market and further evidence of how open the discussions are is the exclusive photo attached to the piece.

“Today for lunch, in a restaurant in the center of Milan, the managing director of Milan Giorgio Furlani, his right-hand man Geoffrey Moncada and Giuseppe Riso, agent of the Milan midfielder, gathered around the same table.

“It is clear that this lunch had the negotiation for Tonali as its main course.”

Newcastle’s opening bid of £42million has been rejected by AC Milan, according to multiple sources in Italy, but talks remain active, as suggested by the three-man meeting.

Tonali, a boyhood AC Milan fan, has made 130 appearances since joining from Brescia in 2020, where he helped the club to their first Serie A title in 11 years in 2022.
