James Maddison was heavily linked with a move to Newcastle United in the last summer transfer window. The attacking midfielder ended up staying put at Leicester City beyond the transfer deadline.

He has had an impressive first few months of the season in the Premier League and was included in England’s 26-man squad for the World Cup, despite only having one cap under his belt so far in his career. Although he sat out of the first game against Iran, the playmaker will be looking to get some minutes over the next couple of outings.

Maddison played with Newcastle striker Callum Wilson at Coventry City and the pair are now in Qatar together. He has taken to Instagram to share the following message (see below):

Time will tell whether Eddie Howe’s side make a swoop for Maddison in the future and there is no doubt that he would be an ideal signing for the Toon Army. He has proven his quality, is a decent age 25 and would arguably get more game time at St. James’ Park as opposed to if he went to a team like Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur etc.

Who knows, maybe it will be “Cov then England then Newcastle” for Maddison like Wilson in the future?

England are back in action on Friday against USA and the duo are both in contention to play. Gareth Southgate’s side breezed past Iran 6-2 last time out and will be eager to more of the same against the States.
