L’Equipe’s Newcastle United v PSG player ratings as Mbappe slammed - 8 for Magpie with 2s and 3s for French

Newcastle United made French giants PSG look like minnows at St James’ Park last night and the media across the channel were far from impressed.

French sports outlet L'Equipe has slammed Paris Saint-Germain stars for their performance at St James' Park on Wednesday night in a series of hugely critical player ratings.

It was an evening to remember for Newcastle United who blew away the French giants in front of a buoyant home crowd to record a historic 4-1 win in emphatic style. PSG, who have won Ligue 1 in nine of the last 11 seasons, barely had a look in against Eddie Howe's side, who now sit top of the 'group of death' Group F in the Champions League.

Miguel Almiron opened the scoring for the Magpies in the 17th minute before Geordie boys Dan Burn and Sean Longstaff got in on the scoring to make it 3-0 by the 50th minute. Lucas Hernandez offered some home for PSG with a goal in the 56th minute but it did little for the visitors' momentum before Fabian Schar sealed the win with an extra-time screamer.

Newcastle United supporters left St James' Park jubilant and in high praise of their team but the same could not be said for football fans watching from across the channel. Leading sports title L'Equipe - which is famously harsh with their match ratings - has published its player ratings from last night’s fixture and slammed the PSG squad.
