The Magpies welcome Jurgen Klopp’s side to St James’ Park - where they have recorded six straight wins - on Saturday afternoon before travelling to the Etihad Stadium eight days later.

Just one point separates the two clubs at the top of the table, so both know a defeat in their final five games could end their title hopes.

‘I won’t make a prediction but I’ll certainly enjoy watching’

“It’s very difficult to say,” Howe said when asked which teams he believes will win the Premier League. “I think we’re very fortunate to see two outstanding teams fighting it out.

“It’s great to see as a neutral watching and learning from both teams. Tactically, they’re so different but so consistent and get incredible results.

“I won’t make a prediction but I’ll certainly enjoy watching.”

The pressure is off when Newcastle face Liverpool and Man City with the ultimate aim of Premier League safety already secured.

But certainly, pulling off a shock result against either team will increase the club’s chances of finishing in the top 10, which would be an incredible achievement given they were deep in relegation trouble not so long ago.

Howe said: “Liverpool and Manchester City are the two biggest tests, the league table tells you that, they give you the biggest examination.

“Our home form has been excellent, the atmosphere, the feel around the ground has been absolutely brilliant to be a part of, and I anticipate the atmosphere tomorrow will be electric at the start of the game.

“We have to feed off that and try to use that to galvanise us against a world-class team.”
