Man United takeover update: Potential owners’ wealth compared to Newcastle United, Man City & Leeds

How would the wealth of Manchester United’s potential owners compared to their Premier League rivals?

One of Newcastle United’s rivals for a place in next season’s Champions League have moved a step closer to a long-awaited takeover in recent days.

Just over two months has passed since Manchester United’s current owners, the Glazer family, indicated they would be willing to bring an end to their controversial 18-year ownership of the 13-time Premier League champions.

Several parties have indicated their intention to enter the buying process with Sir Jim Ratcliffe and a Qatari consortium fronted by Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani both believed to have lodged bids in recent weeks.

But the most recent reports released on Friday morning have revealed it is Elliott Management - a hedge fund set up by billionaire Paul Singer in 1977 - that are the first to progress to the next stage.

Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Salekol tweeted: “Elliott Management have made it through to the second stage of the Man United sale process. US hedge fund has submitted proposal for financing which is open to all parties. They don’t want to buy United. Representatives from Elliott were at United game at Old Trafford last night (against Real Betis)”.

But how would the net worth of the Red Devils’ potential owners compare to the PIF-led consortium that took control at St James Park in October 2021 and their Premier League rivals?
