One of Newcastle United’s rivals for a place in next season’s Champions League could have new owners in the near-future.

Just over three months has passed since Manchester United’s current owners, the Glazer family, confirmed they were ‘exploring strategic alternatives’ but it is now believed they are willing to consider a full sale that would bring an end to their controversial reign at Old Trafford.

A recent report by The Mirror suggested the Glazers were looking for a world record sum to part company with the 13-time Premier League champions, with a figure of £8bn stated as their current asking price. Building on that suggestion, the Mail have claimed a mid-February deadline has been set and British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe is the only party to officially confirm his intention to launch a bid for the club.
