Manchester United and Manchester City have been warned to ‘pay attention’ to Newcastle United if they make a move for Napoli’s prolific striker Victor Osimhen.

The Nigerian International has been in stunning form this season with 21 goals in just 26 appearances in all competitions as his side moved clear at the top of the Serie A table and all but secure their place in the Champions League quarter-finals with a 2-0 first leg win in a round of 16 tie at Eintracht Frankfurt.

Osimhen has become one of the most talked-about strikers in World football in recent months and has been heavily linked with a big-money move away from Napoli, with both Manchester clubs, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain all believed to be keen to offer the 24-year-old a chance to test his fortunes elsewhere next summer.

Newcastle have been linked with Osimhen in the recent past after he was named as a possible target for the Magpies in the aftermath of a PIF-led takeover at St James Park in October 2021. But one Italian journalist has now suggested United could be a good fit for the striker should they choose to make a club record move for the former Lille frontman.

Speaking to 1 Stadion Radio, journalist Carlo Jacomuzzi said: “Osimhen in the Premier League? It all depends on the request from the blue club. It’s an entirely economic problem, since I believe there are clubs ready to buy him. There are many clubs capable of shelling out large sums, as well City and United also pay attention to Newcastle in this sense.

“We’re talking about a player with undisputed qualities who I consider ready to make the leap into the English league. Attacking depth systematically is a characteristic that properly pertains to English football. Among all clubs, it’s Newcastle who are one of those who make use of this principle of play.”
