Newcastle United have reportedly been told what they have to do to land one of their key summer transfer targets.
The Magpies have a long-standing interest in Chelsea and England midfielder Conor Gallagher and are believed to have made approaches for the 23-year-old during the last two transfer windows. But their interest from within the club is far more long-standing with Gallagher said to have been considered during Steve Bruce’s managerial reign, prior to successful loan stints with West Bromwich Albion and Crystal Palace.

Hide AdSpeculation over the midfielder’s future at Stamford Bridge will heighten as the summer transfer window approaches as he struggles to find a regular place in Graham Potter’s preferred starting eleven. The four-cap England star has made 28 appearances in all competitions for the Blues - but only 12 of those have come as a starter and that could force him to look for regular game-time elsewhere during the summer transfer window.
Speaking of Gallagher’s frustrations after he put in an eye-catching display against Crystal Palace earlier this season, Blues boss Potter said: “I thought he was fantastic; great energy and great quality,” said Potter after the game. “He was playing against a team he respects and likes a lot.
“He’s been frustrated because he hasn’t had the game time that he would like but at the same time, he’s worked unbelievably professionally to support the team.”
Football Insider have claimed Chelsea have put a £30m price tag on Gallagher’s head and that could trigger a firm move from Newcastle as they look to finally secure a move to bring the midfielder to Tyneside.
