Newcastle United are among the several clubs linked with the 6ft 6in international goalkeeper.

Newcastle United are tracking Giorgi Mamardashvili with Valencia resigned to losing the goalkeeper this summer.

The Magpies have extensively scouted the 6ft 6in Georgian, who has kept 13 clean sheets in his 37 La Liga appearances this season, and are reportedly lining up a move.

Indeed, movement is expected in United’s goalkeeping department in the coming months. Loris Karius will leave when his contract expires at the end of next month, while Martin Dubravka’s future is uncertain as he enters the final year of his deal.

The Slovakian made 30 appearances in 2023-24 while Nick Pope spent five months out with a dislocated shoulder. Following Pope’s return to full fitness, Dubravka was dropped to the bench for the 4-2 win at Brentford on Sunday and was subsequently left out of the squad for the post-season tour of Australia.

The Times claims Mamardashvili is likely to be available for around £35million. It’s understood he would provide direct competition for Pope and at the age of 23 be viewed as a long-term replacement with the England shotstopper turning 33 next year.

Newcastle, however, aren’t the only club linked with Mamardashvili with Atletico Madrid keen.

Interestingly, Valencia have already moved to replace Mamardashvili. As revealed by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Stole Dimitrievski will join the Mestalla club from Rayo Vallecano after undergoing medical tests and agreeing a four-year contract.

Romano posted on X: “Understand Macedonian GK already completed medical tests as new Valencia player, it’s all done. Contract will be valid for the next four years, June 2028.”

Mamardashvili is due to make his 100th appearances for Valencia when they visit Celta Vigo on the final day of the La Liga campaign on Sunday.
