Newcastle United co-owner Mehrdad Ghodoussi has reflected on an “incredible season” - and thanked fans for their “unwavering support”.

Eddie Howe’s men rounded off their 2022-23 Premier League campaign with a 1-1 draw at Chelsea on Sunday and can now look forward to hosting Champions League football at St James’ Park next term.

The Magpies have gone from battling relegation to returning to Europe’s elite just over 18 months since the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia, PCP Partners and RB Sports & Media acquired the club from Mike Ashley for £305million.

The progress has been rapid, and Ghodoussi was quick to pay tribute to everyone associated with Newcastle after he, alongside Amanda Staveley, watched on from the Stamford Bridge directors’ box.

“What an incredible season, so proud of this team and everyone associated with it,” Ghodoussi tweeted. “A huge thank you to all of you, for your unwavering support, you are the best and we never forget that. Next season won’t be easy, but I know we will give it our all.

Jamie Reuben agreed: “Incredible indeed - thank you to all the traveling supporters today and every day as well as the entire @NUFC family, we have lots to look forward too, let’s keep UNITED and continue moving onwards and upwards.”
