Newcastle United are lining up a sensational move for one of German football’s most in-form attackers, according to reports. Bayer Leverkusen attacker Victor Boniface is quickly establishing himself as a rising star in Germany.

The 22-year-old has smashed in an impressive seven goals from seven matches this season and has propelled his team to top spot in the Bundesliga table. Boniface has linked up exceptionally well with a number of his team mates this season including fellow Newcastle target Florian Wirtz and German international Jonas Hofmann - this impressive form attracted international recognition for the forward, who recently made his Nigeria debut against Saudi Arabia.

The striker impressed on his debut for the Super Eagles and forced Saudi shotstopper Mohammed Alowais into an own goal during the 2-2 draw. Sun Sport understands that Newcastle scouts were in attendance for the game as they eye up a move for a third striker to compete with the likes of Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson.

Boniface has enjoyed a meteoric rise to prominence over the last 18 months and he already has strong credentials in European competitions. The 6ft3 forward began his career at Bodo/Glimt in Norway but it was his one year spell at Royale Union Saint-Gillois last season which caught the eyes of the footballing world.

The powerful centre forward registered nine goals and eight assists in the league as the Belgian outfit competed for Champions League football - while he also stood out as the top scorer in the entirety of the Europa League last term with six goals from 10 appearances. This form earned him a spot in the Europa league Team of The Tournament last term as his team reached the quarter-finals. Boniface also scored during the quarter-final against Bayer Leverkusen which prompted the German outfit to sign him for £12m.

Boniface is renowned for his physicality and ability to hold up the ball, which is an asset that neither Wilson or Isak have in abundance. TeamTalk understands that Eddie Howe is keen to add a striker with physicality who could compliment the pair and add a more direct style if Newcastle are chasing a game.

The Magpies did previously have Chris Wood on their books for that reason before his move to Nottingham Forest in January. But at 22-years of age - Boniface still has plenty of room to improve and he could be one to watch in the coming months.
