The 23-year-old returned to Goodison Park for the third time since joining the Magpies for £45million in January 2023 and endured a nightmare moment when his first-half penalty was saved by England teammate Jordan Pickford.
Everton fans took great delight in Gordon’s miss following his acrimonious departure - and the club’s social media admin didn’t waste the opportunity to play up to the crowd.

But boyhood Everton fan turned Liverpool legend Carragher didn’t at all see the funny side.
“Local lad who came through your academy, helped keep you up under [Frank] Lampard, wanted out because the club was a shambles on & off the pitch & who you then sold for £40m,” Carragher wrote. “The Peoples club!”
When questioned why Everton can’t jeer former players, Carragher replied: “Of course you can, as you did yesterday! And will do for the next 10yrs at Goodison when he comes back but you don’t expect the official club socials to do it.”

His reaction and the way he dealt with his Goodison Park return was praised by United head coach Eddie Howe.
Howe said: “Naturally he'll be disappointed. It was a much better performance from him today than last year so I thought he dealt with the occasion today really well. Tactically he gave them a problem going deep and he did really well.
