The latest transfer talk from Newcastle United as the Magpies are linked with two players shining in Serie A this season.

Newcastle United have reportedly continued their planning for the summer transfer window by assessing the progress of two highly-rated Serie A targets.

The Magpies endured a challenging January transfer window as the limitations imposed upon them by the Premier League's profit and sustainability regulations meant no new faces were added to Eddie Howe's squad. The month was dominated by speculation over the possible sale of a big player after the likes of Kieran Trippier, Bruno Guimaraes and Miguel Almiron were all linked with moves away from St James Park.

The summer is set to bring a certain degree of relief for the Magpies hierarchy with several commercial deals set to kick in and a number of existing players now approaching the final months of their current deals at St James Park. That could allow for some breathing space in the battle with PSR and create an opportunity to strengthen Howe's squad as the United boss looks to move on from what has been a challenging season.

With options in all areas being assessed by recruitment staff, HITC have reported the Magpies were represented at Gewiss Stadium for the Serie A game between Atalanta and Lazio at the weekend as the hosts claimed a 3-1 win. Two goals from former Magpies target Charles De Ketelaere put La Dea on their way to another three points to boost their hopes of landing a Champions League spot - but it was two of his team-mates that were under the watch of Newcastle scouts.

The report states the Magpies and Premier League rivals Manchester United were monitoring the progress of Brazilian midfielder Ederson, who was linked with both clubs during the January transfer window. However, highly-rated 20-year-old defender Giorgio Scalvini was also watched as he continued to enhance his growing reputation with an impressive display.
