Official statement rules Newcastle United star out of two more matches due to injury
The Swedish FA have confirmed Newcastle United winger Anthony Elanga will miss the upcoming international break matches due to injury.
Newcastle United face a nervous wait regarding the fitness of winger Anthony Elanga after it was confirmed he would miss Sweden’s Nations League matches due to injury.
Sweden face Romania and Poland at the Strawberry Arena on September 25 and September 28 respectively. But Elanga, who missed Newcastle’s 4-1 defeat at Leeds United due to a potentially serious injury, will not join up with the squad next week.
Instead, he will have an MRI scan to assess the extent of the issue. Elanga scored in Newcastle’s opening two Premier League matches against Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur but will now miss Saturday’s match against Hull City (3pm kick-off) due to injury.

Elanga will miss at least four games due to the injury, including Sweden’s two international matches, but Newcastle head coach Matthias Jaissle fears it could be a long-term issue.
Jaissle said: “It could be long-term. He will get another MRI next week and we will see.
“Anthony Elanga is obviously struggling with an injury, we need to further now investigate how serious it is but at the moment it doesn’t look too good.”
Swedish FA statement
Rather than simply omitting Elanga from the squad announcement, the Swedish FA namechecked the Newcastle winger, who impressed for his country at the World Cup in the summer, as an injury absence.
“A number of names are missing and several are due to injuries,” the statement read. “Isak Hien, who was injured during the World Cup, is still not available. Anthony Elanga has suffered an injury in the past week and will therefore miss the meeting.
