‘Thank God’ - Will Osula honest about injury blow after Newcastle United heroics

Will Osula bagged his first goal of the season as Newcastle United earned a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace.

Will Osula is ready to kick on at Newcastle United after bagging his first goal of the season.

Having started the campaign as the first-choice striker, the Dane suffered a cruel injury blow on the opening day against Liverpool. He has worked his way to full fitness in recent weeks and Matthias Jaissle threw him into the deep end at Selhurst Park.

Osula justified the call - breaking the deadlock with a neat volley on 47 minutes. It was a well-timed finish that showcased the 23-year-old’s development since joining in 2024.

‘I’m very happy’ - Will Osula

The centre-forward role is now Osula’s to lose once again ahead of a midweek trip to Everton. On his recent injury woes, Osula told NewcastleWorld: “I'm very happy. Thank God I'm back from injury now. It's been a tough period, but I'm happy to be back with the team, and being able to help the team today is really important with the win.

“Obviously, an injury comes unexpectedly, when you don't expect it, which is not nice after planning or having goals from the start of the season. But, you know, I trust God and have faith in God that I've come back now from injury.

“I'm happy that I could also deliver today with my first start. So hopefully I can keep going in my season and kick-start from here now.”

Will Osula wants to improve

Osula also believes there is plenty more to come while reflecting on his strike against Crystal Palace. He added: “In the first half, I was looking to see where the opportunities and chances were coming from, but not much came.

“So in the second half we came out with optimism and faith, knowing that if something's going to drop, we have to be alert and take it. And also have a clean sheet at the back and defend well. So that's what we needed for the three points.

“I feel like I still have a lot to show in what I can do inside the pitch. Hopefully, over time, I can show the different things I can do on the field.”
