Other United fans, however, hope the Black Cats never set foot in the Premier League ever again.

Football Away Days reposted a clip to Twitter (via @GJ_1892) of Sunderland fans being escorted by the police up to St James’ Park alongside the words: ‘Sunderland fans with a police escort for an intimidating walk to Newcastle’s St James’ park for derby day, back in the day.

‘I personally would love to see this derby back as a regular league fixture, it’s up there with the best in the country.’

With the last Tyne-Wear derby being in 2016, some of the younger United fans may have yet to experience the chaos they bring.
