Newcastle United must stump up £50million to lure Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford, according to reports.

Various sources claim the Magpies have identified the 25-year-old as their “dream” January transfer target. Mbeumo has enjoyed a stellar start to the season, bagging eight goals in nine Premier League fixtures.

The winger has filled the void left by former Toon striker Ivan Toney, who joined Saudi Pro League club Al-Ahli in the summer. His goalscoring exploits have followed on from the nine strikes he bagged for Thomas Frank’s men last season.

NewcastleWorld understands Toon chiefs targeted a right-sided attacker early in the window to replace Miguel Almiron and Jacob Murphy. That was until a lengthy saga unravelled when Marc Guehi - a defender - became the No.1 option.

Those frailties out wide have been exposed again just two months into the 2024-25 campaign. The Telegraph, the outlet that revealed Newcastle’s interest in Guehi, reported Mbeumo as being on United’s radar earlier this week.

However, a key caveat was how any move would likely force the Magpies to sell to comply with FFP/PSR regulations. This frustrated Newcastle fans, who have watched their club fail to make a significant addition for two transfer windows.

A fresh update from talkSPORT now claims Brentford will demand £50million from potential suitors to sell the wideman. St James’ Park chiefs may view that as fair value for a Premier League star approaching the prime of his career.

Offers for Guehi totalled around £65million in the summer - meaning Newcastle should have funds available. Buying a dynamic, right-sided goalscorer would also placate supporters becoming frustrated by the club’s transfer policy.

Liverpool are, however, also named as another interested party as they ponder Mohamed Salah’s future. The Egyptian - who turns 33 next summer - is out of contract at the end of the season.
