Eddie Howe is expected to add a number of fresh faces to his squad, and he has already snapped up loan star Matt Targett on a permanent deal.

Newcastle will be eyeing a top-half finish next season as they look to improve on their 11th place standing this term.

Improvements to the squad will be key to taking that step forward, while we could also see exits.

Here we took a look at the latest news and rumours surrounding St James’ Park.

Ekitike update

Newcastle are said to be closing in on the signing of French starlet Hugo Ekitike.

The Magpies are said to have expressed an interest in the 19-year-old back in January, but they could not pull off a deal.

According to 90min, Newcastle have had a deal in place worth £26million since the start of June.

It’s hoped Etikike will complete his move to St James’ Park some time this week, or early next week.

Ekitike scored 11 times for Stade Reims this season, making 26 appearances across all competitions.

He could now be the Magpies first real statement signing of the summer.

Eriksen interest

Newcastle have been mentioned as an interested party when it comes to Brentford star Christian Eriksen.

The Dane is on course to leave West London, rejecting a new contract at the club ahead of his current deal expiring at the end of June.

According to MailOnline, Newcastle are interested, with Eriksen looking to stay in England.

The issue is that the midfielder is keen to play European football, and the Magpies are not the only club interested, with Man Utd also in pursuit.
