Newcastle United are believed to be closing in on a £21m deal to sign a highly rated youngster from a major European club, according to reports. The Magpies have mainly made it their policy to sign young players in recent transfer windows and the fruit of their labour has been shown by the rapid progress of Tino Livramento, Alexander Isak and Lewis Hall, while loanee Yankuba Minteh is also making a strong impression at Feyenoord.

The latest name tipped to join the books at St James’ Park is Juventus winger Matias Soule who is currently enjoying a productive loan spell at Serie A new boys Frosinone. Soule is a 20-year-old Argentine winger who has played for his country at U16 and U20 level. He joined Juventus’s academy in 2020 after a number of years in his country's capital with Vélez Sarsfield and progressed quickly into the club’s first team a year later in 2021.

So far, Soule has amassed a combined 15 appearances for Juventus in Serie A across two seasons and he has found the net on one occasion. Soule has rarely been a starter for the Old Lady but did also gain three games of experience in the Champions League playing against elite level opposition.

The Argentine was not deemed to be part of Massimo Allegri’s first team plans this season but has made a huge impression in Serie A with his recent performances for Frosinone - scoring six goals and providing one assist in 12 appearances, whilst playing for a team that many experts felt would struggle at the start of the season.

Italian outlet Juve.Live claims talks have already started between Newcastle and Juventus over a potential transfer. The Old Lady are believed to be struggling financially and are reportedly looking to sell some of their younger players to raise funds.

Geordie Boot Boys adds that the Magpies have been in contact with Juventus’ director Cristiano Giuntoli over the deal, which if successful is likely to take place in the summer. Soule is able to operate on either wing and is also believed to be a target for Crystal Palace in the summer.

The 20-year-old is not the only Juventus winger to be linked with a move to Newcastle and the reports follow rumours of a switch for England prodigy Samuel Iling-Junior for a reported fee of around £15.5m.
