Jamie Reuben felt Newcastle United “deserved more” from their 1-0 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Magpies had nearly 60% of the possession and registered 21 efforts at goal but were unable to find a breakthrough as Danny Welbeck’s 35th minute goal proved to be the difference between the two sides.

It was an afternoon where Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon missed key opportunities for United, who suffered only their second home defeat of 2024 and their first since the 3-2 defeat loss against Manchester City in January.

It was also the first time since the 0-0 draw against Leicester City in May 2023, the night the club qualified for the Champions League, that Howe’s side have failed to score at St James’ Park.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, to deliver his short verdict, co-owner Reuben wrote: “Frustrating result - we deserved more - thank you for your outstanding support today”.

Indeed, Reuben’s thoughts echo much of what Howe said in his post-match press conference.

The Newcastle boss said: "Yeah, really frustrated because I thought our general performance today for 60-65 minutes was really good.

“I think that is the best we've looked, the most dominant we've been in a game and lo and behold you don't take your chances and we concede a poor goal from our perspective, it was Brighton's first meaningful attack and of course we only have ourselves to blame for that.

“We need to look and analyse that but the majority of the performance was very strong."

Newcastle are without a win in their last four Premier League matches and face some tough fixtures leading up to the November international with Chelsea, Arsenal and Nottingham Forest.
