Newcastle United co-owner Jamie Reuben insists the club “will bounce back” after losing 3-1 to Brighton and Hove Albion.

Having lost back-to-back games against Manchester City and 10-man Liverpool last week, Eddie Howe’s men headed to South Coast looking to avoid a third consecutive Premier League defeat before heading into the international break. However, the Magpies put in a dismal showing.

Evan Ferguson netted a hat-trick, first opening the scoring in the first-half following an error by Nick Pope. He then beat the United goalkeeper from distance just after the hour-mark before adding a third via a shot that deflected off Fabian Schar.

Substitute Callum Wilson scored a consolation goal during injury time as United lost three successive Premier League games for the first time since April 2022.

Newcastle host Brentford at St James’ Park after the international break and Reuben has backed Howe’s side to bounce back.

He tweeted: “Not the result we wanted- thank you to the incredible @NUFC fans who travelled so far and made their voices heard throughout. Credit to @OfficialBHAFC. We will bounce back. #WeAreUnited@ghodoussi”
