The family of Newcastle United co-owner Jamie Reuben has been named in the top ten of The Times Rich List 2023.

Just under 18 months has passed since Reuben’s RB Sports and Media operation formed part of a Saudi-led consortium that agreed a £330m takeover deal with former Magpies owner Mike Ashley. The 36-year-old businessmen reflected on a dramatic first year in control at St James Park earlier this season after the new owners oversaw a dramatic turnaround in fortunes that has now taken United to the brink of returning to the Champions League.

Speaking in October 2022, he said: “The immediate priority was to restore pride in the club and I think we achieved that,” he said. “I think going forward with PIF, the consortium wants us to compete at the highest levels of football and really be competitive in every competition. It’s a long-term strategy but I’m hopeful we’ll get there.”

With a hectic summer transfer window already anticipated as Eddie Howe’s side prepare to take the club back into Europe for the first time in a decade, the wealth of the various parties involved in the consortium will be relied on to boost the United ranks in a bid to cope with what will be a hectic schedule next season.

Much has been made of the estimated wealth of the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund, which reportedly stands at around £514 billion - but the release of the latest annual Times Rich List shows Reuben and his family have considerable wealth of their own.

Indian-born businessman Gopi Hinduja tops the list with a wealth of around £35 billion and he sits ahead of prospective Manchester United owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe (£29.688 billion) and Sir Leonard Blavatnik (£28.625 billion). The Reuben family sit in fourth place in the list with an estimated wealth of £24.399 billion), ahead of the likes of Sir James Dyson and Lakshmi Mittal. Former Magpies owner Ashley’s £3.84 billion sees him rise into the top 50 of the list.
