Newcastle United have loaned out young star Joe White to League Two side Hartlepool United for the remainder of the season.

The Carlisle-born teenager has excelled in the club’s under-23s this term whilst gaining first-team recognition.

In pre-season, White made his first-team bow at Burton Albion and has also appeared in the matchday squad for Premier League fixtures.

White was an unused substitute against Manchester United - both home and away - and Manchester City.

His contract was due to expire this summer but with the player set to agree fresh terms, a loan to Hartlepool has been finalised.

Eddie Howe praise for Joe White

Speaking about White last month, head coach Eddie Howe was full of praise for one of the club’s most exciting talents.

Howe said: “I’ve been very impressed with him playing for the development squad recently.

“He performed really well, so he’s a talented player.”

Joe White on his move to Pools

White has represented England at under-18s level and signed his first professional contract in 2019.

His grandfather Peter Hampton, played for Leeds United during the 1970s and 1980s and played more than 100 games each for Stoke City and Burnley.

On the move to Pools, White said: “I’m really keen to play first team football now and once I knew Hartlepool were interested I wanted to come.

“I know the manager wants to play good football and that was one of the key reasons why I wanted to join.

“I want to play as many games as possible between now and the end of the season, scoring and assisting goals and showing the fans what I’m capable of.”

Elliot Anderson next?

The next youngster to leave on loan could be Elliot Anderson.

Anderson, who made his senior debut at Arsenal in the FA Cup last January, remained on Tyneside instead of travelling to Saudi Arabia ahead of a potential love move.

Luton Town have been heavily linked with the 19-year-old over the last 12 months.

“With Elliot, we are looking at loaning him but nothing is confirmed on that,” Howe confirmed on Friday.

“The focus of him staying behind was to be available to move and be ready to potentially join another club on a loan deal.

“We are waiting to see if that is going to happen or not.”
