Newcastle United are reportedly ‘eyeing’ a move for Southampton’s highly-rated midfielder Carlos Alcaraz.

The Argentinean youngster joined the Saints from Racing Club in a £10m deal during the January transfer window and went on to scored four goals and provide two assists in 21 appearances as his new side failed in their bid to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

Despite his side’s struggles, Alcaraz caught the eye of several clubs after impressing against the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool during his first four months at St Mary’s.

Newcastle were one of the clubs said to be considering a move during the summer transfer window and TalkSPORT have now claimed the Magpies are ready to revisit their interest in the midfielder when the January window opens.

Alcaraz has not been named in the Saints starting lineup in their last three games as Russell Martin’s side have slipped to defeats against Sunderland, Leicester City and Ipswich Town - and he could look to make a move away from the South Coast if he is unable to work his way into the side over the coming weeks.
