Newcastle United are exploring the possibility of signing Brighton & Hove Albion forward Leandro Trossard, according to reports which suggest they will look to snap him up during the January transfer window.

Trossard has enjoyed a spectacular start to the current season and has scored seven goals in 12 Premier League appearances, including a hat-trick against Liverpool earlier this month. The Belgian’s fine form has unsurprisingly attracted attention from a number of top clubs including Graham Potter eyeing a reunion with his former player at Chelsea.

Trossard joined the Seagulls in 2019 for £18 million and is set to see his contract at the Amex Stadium expire in summer 2024, meaning he will be entering the final 18 months of his deal in January. The forward has previously suggested he would be keen to join Blues if given the opportunity, though Newcastle will look to make the first move and will lodge an initial enquiry before the end of the year, according to The Northern Echo.

The Magpies will be up against some tough opposition in their pursuit of Trossard, however their current league position and lucrative pay could make a move to Tyneside more appealing. The forward is currently valued at around £30 million and any potential bidding war could go in United’s favour.

Despite being in brilliant form recently, arguably Newcastle’s weakest area is their attack, with Eddie Howe likely to look for a replacement for Jacob Murphy. The winger has been standing in for the injured Allan Saint-Maximin but has only one goal so far this season.
