'Not helpful' - Newcastle United chief makes fresh Lewis Hall claim after Man Utd interest

Newcastle United are set to make a decision on Lewis Hall’s future.

Newcastle United are looking to confirm a new long-term contract for Lewis Hall following a summer of speculation surrounding the left-back.

The 22-year-old, who celebrated his birthday this week, has been a key player at St James’ Park in recent seasons and has three years left on his current deal.

But strong transfer interest from Manchester United, despite no formal offer or bid, was consistently and emphatically downplayed by senior sources on Tyneside.

Newcastle head coach Matthias Jaissle also went public in stating there was ‘no chance’ Hall would be leaving the club during the summer window despite the Magpies sanctioning the sales of Bruno Guimaraes, Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali.

Now the club will look to double down on securing Hall’s future with more external interest anticipated.

“For sure he will have interest [from other clubs] in the winter, like many other players,” Jaissle said last week. “Every window there will be interest for our players. We definitely count on him, he’s a player of huge, huge potential.

“He’s delivering at a high level already but we all know there’s much more to come and we’re really excited that he is a part of the team, hopefully in the long-term.”

Newcastle sporting director Ross Wilson was asked about the prospect of a new deal for Hall, but remained tight-lipped on the situation.

“We comment on things like that when they're done,” he said. “We think it's unhelpful to comment otherwise. We confirmed Harvey [Barnes] and Lewis [Miley] when they were done - I think that's the best way for us to operate in this space. It's not helpful to speculate on these things.”
