Alan Shearer delivers 'awful' verdict moments after Newcastle United win at Crystal Palace - hard to disagree
Crystal Palace 0-2 Newcastle United: Alan Shearer has had his say following a ‘much needed’ win for Matthias Jaissle’s side.
Alan Shearer praised Newcastle United’s second half response to claim a 2-0 win at Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon.
After a goalless first-half, Newcastle took the lead just minutes into the second through William Osula’s close range finish from Jacob Murphy’s cross. Joe Willock then had a goal ruled out for offisde before Harvey Barnes doubled the visitors’ lead at Selhurst Park with a tidy finish from Amar Dedic’s cross.
It ended a run of successive Premier League defeats for Newcastle and saw them keep a clean sheet after losing their previous two away matches 4-1.

Defeat would have left Matthias Jaissle’s side just two points above the relegation zone with eight games played but the victory in South London saw them move into the top half and just two points off the top five.
While Shearer recognised the second-half response from the Magpies, he was quick to point out the lack of quality shown by Palace, who suffered a 5-0 defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend.
“A good second half from the Toon against an awful Palace side,” Shearer posted on X. “A much-needed 3 points.”
Next up for Newcastle is a trip to face Everton in the Carabao Cup on Thursday night before they host the Toffees at St James’ Park in their next Premier League match a week on Monday.
