Newcastle United discover Carabao Cup fourth round opponents

Newcastle United will have to overcome Premier League rivals Bournemouth to progress into the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup.

The Magpies secured their place in the last 16 with a penalty shoot-out win against Premier League rivals Crystal Palace on Wednesday night and they will have to see off if they are to reach the quarter-final for the third time in seven seasons. The tie will be held on the week commencing Monday 19th December, meaning it will also mark United’s return to competitive action following the World Cup break.

The two sides have already met at St James Park this season after an Alexander Isak penalty cancelled out a Philip Billing opener in a 1-1 draw.

Elsewhere in the draw, Premier League champions Manchester City will host Liverpool and the lowest ranked club in the competition, League Two club Gillingham, will visit Wolverhampton Wanderers and Manchester United will face Burnley at Old Trafford.
