Eddie Howe celebrated his one-year anniversary in charge of Newcastle with a plush meal out at Miller & Carter Steakhouse in Gosforth Park last weekend, but his choice of restaurant has sparked debate amongst Geordies.

It's been 12 months full of highs since the manager took the reigns from Steve Bruce at St. James' Park with scintillating form, adored new signings and an upturn in performance for a number of players who were already at the club but struggling. When Howe was appointed back in November 2021 Newcastle languished in 19th place with relegation beckoning but fast forward a year and the Magpies are flying high in third place after 14 games.

To celebrate his tenure, Howe chose to dine at the Gosforth Park venue of Miller & Carter, a restaurant known for its fine choice of steaks. The restaurant shared a photo of the Newcastle manager after his meal saying that they were "completely honoured" to have welcomed the boss.

It's not known what Howe ordered at the restaurant, which is a haven for meat lovers thanks to its steak experience. Its menu describes: "We are proud to have been awarded ‘Masters of Steak’, from the prestigious Craft Guild of Chefs. Our prime British & Irish steaks are matured for at least 30 days. Our Master Butchers then cut our off-bone steaks by hand. All our head chefs are accredited ‘Masters of Steak’ from attending our dedicated Steak School. All of our steaks are served with parsley butter, balsamic beef tomato, onion loaf, your choice of steak sauce and lettuce wedge dressing."

Cuts of meat under the steak experience can cost up to £46 with sharing cuts reaching just under £70, although with a reported wage of £3 million that is just a drop in the ocean for Howe.

The boss isn't the only member of the Newcastle United set-up who has dined with Miller & Carter in recent months. Alexander Isak was spotted eating at the chain, where a waiter labelled his order of a Cote de Boeuf served medium as a "pure class choice".

However, where the Newcastle striker's experience differed from that of his manager was that he chose the city centre venue rather than in Gosforth. There's also a Miller & Carter in Tynemouth and in Sunderland.

In the comments of the photo shared by Miller & Carter Gosforth, Newcastle fans launched into debate over where the best version of the chain nearby really was.

Many agreed that Eddie Howe had chosen the best of the bunch in Gosforth. One said "it's the best we've been to" and another labelled it "the best Miller & Carter in the North East". One customer even said, "good job he didn't choose the Newcastle branch" and another said it was "much better" than the one in Tynemouth. Meanwhile, some rooted for the city centre branch. One user said, "I prefer Newcastle, Gosforth Park has no atmosphere and full of kids".

Others questioned the manager's choice in the first place, saying they "could think of better places to go than there". But one fan admitted that despite their belief the restaurant had "lost their way in Gosforth and Newcastle", if it's good enough for Eddie Howe, it'll be good enough for him.
