Fabrizio Romano claims £30m star is considering shock Newcastle United switch - just months after transfer

Newcastle United are said to be plotting a shock move to sign Championship title winning midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall in the upcoming January transfer window.

The former Leicester City Player of the Year has endured a tough start to life at Chelsea since making the £30m move to West London over the summer.

The 26-year-old, who registered an incredible 12 goals and 14 assists in the Championship for Enzo Maresca’s Foxes team last term, has been limited to just 43 minutes of Premier League action under the Italian this season, with all of his three appearances coming from the subs bench.

Dewsbury-Hall’s decision to swap the King Power Stadium for a stacked Chelsea squad is beginning to look more unwise by the day. Over the summer, the midfielder opened up about his desire to represent England and claimed that a return to the top-flight would help boost his chances of getting into the squad.

But as it stands, Dewsbury Hall’s only starts of the season have come in the Europa Conference League and Carabao Cup, with his most recent start coming in the 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge, where he played out of position on the right side of midfield.

Newcastle, themselves, have a midfield that is already stacked with quality with Bruno Guimaraes, Joe Willock, Sean Longstaff, Sandro Tonali, Lewis Miley and Joelinton all competing for a starting spot in the middle of the park.

However, in recent weeks the latter has been moved out to the left wing to give Newcastle’s front three greater aggression with the high press, and so far it has worked to great effect after a run of three victories in three matches across all competitions since the tweak was made.

Newcastle have been heavily linked with an additional winger in recent months, but Joelinton’s new found success on the wing could lead to the Magpies once again looking to bolster their central midfield options - particularly after the loss of Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest.

Dewsbury-Hall is a box-to-box midfielder, renowned for his incredible work rate, high energy and stamina, which allows him to press opponents to great effect.

“He's calm, fantastic with the ball, he knows when to attack and what to give the team. He is so dangerous near the box, and has the quality to score or assist from anywhere." Enzo Maresca told Sky Sports earlier in the season.

Fabrizio Romano claims that Newcastle are one of the club’s eyeing a January loan move for the Chelsea man in his Daily Briefing, but adds that Brighton & Hove Albion, Manchester United, Fulham and Aston Villa are also admirers of the 26-year-old star.
