Newcastle United fans struggled to contain their excitement online on Thursday afternoon as Sam Fender was spotted walking on the pitch of St. James' Park.

A supporter enjoying a stadium tour at the ground snapped a video of the North Shields singer walking along the halfway line with his black and white guitar.

The 'Seventeen Going Under' singer is a huge Newcastle United fan and regularly speaks about his love for the club.

Fender's live shows are adorned with Magpies memorabilia and he famously appeared hungover on BBC Breakfast last year after the club takeover went through.

As the star's concerts have grown bigger and bigger with his success, Newcastle supporters have been calling for the Geordie to put on a gig at St. James' Park.

There had been no sign of that happening but, whilst any sort of confirmation or announcement has still not been made, images of him shooting what looks to be promo material on the pitch at St. James’ Park has supporters hoping it may come soon.

Replying to the video, one fan wrote "I suspect he will play there next year", whilst another added, "rights man, defo be playing there within the next year or so. He’d sell it out eeeasy".

Others online thought that the club might have recruited Fender to help with the announcement of the imminent transfer arrival of Alexander Isak.

One Twitter user said: "Will happily wait until Monday for the Isak announcement video if it's got Sam Fender involved. This could be epic."

Another wrote: "I mean, if you’re going to announce a club record signing at SJP, you may as well do it in style…"

Earlier this summer Fender played his biggest headline show to date to 40,000 people at Finsbury Park.

It came after two sold-out dates at the Utilita Arena earlier this year, which had fans swooning over the relatable Geordie star.

If the star was to announce at St. James' Park show, it would be his biggest ever headline performance to date with over 50,000 people expected to attend.

It will be a painstaking wait for fans of Fender and Newcastle United as more information on what the singer is doing on the stadium's turf is awaited.
