Newcastle United are being linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund superstar Jude Bellingham.

The Magpies have been proactive in improving their squad over recent times, splashing out a huge amount over the last three windows, in the wake of their new ownership. Newcastle have only recently spent as much as £45million to sign Anthony Gordon from Everton, but they would need to access the next level of spending to snap up Bellingham.

The England midfielder is likely to attract a fee of more than £100million this summer, and he will not be short of suitors, with Liverpool, Manchester City and Real Madrid all linked. The race is set to dominate headlines this summer, and BILD, via SportWitness, say there is ‘no longer’ the option of Bellingham staying at Dortmund.

Interestingly, they also claim that Newcastle are ‘trying to get involved’ in the race to land Bellingham, and that’s despite concern over Financial Fair Play. Though, if they secure Champions League qualification, their profits would give them significant room for manoeuvre on that front.

The issue for Newcastle, even if they do manage to get into a position to spend so much this summer, is that they do not yet have the pulling power of the likes of Liverpool and Real Madrid, despite the success so far this season. Those clubs are in a better position to offer long-term success at the moment, and that’s something Bellingham is likely to take into account as he plots a crucial next move, one that is likely to determine where he spends the next five years or more.

That’s a big factor, and particularly given it has already been reported that Dortmund will take into account the player’s preference when discussing a possible deal with interested clubs this summer.
