Newcastle United are admirers of Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo.

Brentford are braced for summer interest in the “unbelievable” Bryan Mbeumo.

The 25-year-old helped inspire the Bees to a first home win since December by beating Brighton & Hove Albion 4-2 on Saturday. Mbeumo scored twice and set up Yoane Wissa’s goal.

The Cameroon international now has 18 Premier League goals to his name this campaign - only Mohammed Salah (27), Alexander Isak (21), Erling Haaland (21) and Chris Wood (19) have scored more. Combined with Wissa, the pair’s 43 goal contributions are bettered only by Newcastle United duo Isak and Jacob Murphy.

With five games of the season remaining, Thomas Frank’s side are still in with a shout of finishing eighth, which could be a route into next season’s Europa Conference League.

“As a pair, is there anyone who has (scored more)?” said Frank. “I know (Mohamed) Salah has been ridiculous, you’ll find a Liverpool player that has more between the two of them, but as a consistent pair? That’s an incredible achievement from the two of them.

“When you consistently over the last six seasons have produced top scorers, that must be something we’re doing right. I’m very happy that (Mbeumo) is shining and is the main man now for us. But I think it’s a duo, him and Wissa.”

Thomas Frank: Bryan Mbeumo is ‘unbelievable’

Newcastle are among several clubs linked with Mbeumo as they target a new right forward this summer. Although Murphy has been outstanding this term with nine goals and 13 assists, he is the only recognised option after Miguel Almiron was sold to Atlanta United in January.

Scoring and creating goals will always be the most important part of being a winger but United head coach Eddie Howe is big on work ethic. To that end, Frank’s comments on Mbeumo is a glowing endorsement.

"I'm very happy that he's shining," Frank added. "It's a duo, of course, him and [Yoane] Wissa. Wissa is fantastic. He has actually scored more open-play goals than Bryan still, but Bryan is the penalty taker. Unbelievable at penalties, assists, work ethic. An unbelievable player."

What’s been said about Bryan Mbeumo’s future?

Frank has previously admitted Mbeumo will go on to play for a bigger club, while the player himself has spoken about his ambitions to play at the very top level.

“I have spent five years at Brentford, at a club that has allowed me to grow and pass a milestone but yes, I would like to play in the biggest competitions, at the best clubs,” Mbeumo said last year. “It is tantalising to see some big clubs interested in me. We will see.”

Mbeumo is reportedly valued between £50million to £60m, though it is not yet clear if any clubs will bite at that price.”
