It’s no secret that Newcastle United have been linked with Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney for some time now but the wheels may finally be in motion over getting a deal finalised.

The Magpies have already splashed out on some exciting new recruits this summer, including Harvey Barnes and Sandro Tonali. Both players enjoyed a dream debut at St James’ Park at the weekend by getting on the scoresheet in the 5-1 win over Aston Villa. Tonali opened Newcastle’s account for the season with a goal after just six minutes.

There are other potential new signings still to explore though as the Toon look to continue their strong run of form from last term. According to an update from Football Insider, the Magpies have officially ‘made contact’ with their Premier League rivals over signing Tierney this summer.

However, the left-back is not without his share of options, as Real Sociedad are also in a similar position and are looking to snap him up before the transfer window closes in just over two weeks’ time. Both clubs have entered discussions with Arsenal over a potential move.

Eddie Howe identified Tierney as a ‘top target’ for the summer last month and Newcastle have remained heavily linked to his signature since then. The 26-year-old is looking to secure regular football after falling down the pecking order behind Oleksandr Zinchenko, who has slotted into Mikel Arteta’s side well since joining from Manchester City.

Tierney featured in 27 Premier League matches last season but the majority were from off the bench, including a number of cameo appearances. Now, he is looking to be listed as a starter at his potential new club. Arsenal are also eager to lock in a permanent move for the Scotland international but both Newcastle and Real Sociedad have reportedly enquired about a loan move.
