Newcastle United youngster Lewis Miley has revealed his pride after writing his name into the club's record books with a historic appearance in Tuesday night's Champions League defeat at Borussia Dortmund.

At just 17 years and 191 days, the Magpies academy product became the youngster player in United's history to make an appearance in European competition when he came off the bench to replace Joe Willock with ten minutes remaining at Signal Iduna Park.

The previous holder of the record was former Magpies striker Adam Campbell, who was 17 years and 236 days old when he replaced Papiss Cisse during a Europe League qualifier against Greek club Atromitos in August 2012.

The appearance marks another major step in Miley's promising career and comes just six months after he made his senior debut as a substitute in a 1-1 draw at Chelsea on the final day of last season. The England Under-19 star made a number of appearances during the Magpies pre-season campaign and made his first senior competitive start in the 1-0 win against Manchester City in a Carabao Cup tie in September.

The injury crisis at St James Park and a looming suspension for fellow midfielder Bruno Guimaraes means Miley may well get the opportunity to add to his three senior appearances over the coming weeks.

But for now, he reflected on a memorable night in Dortmund, despite revealing his disappointment over his side's defeat against the Bundesliga giants.

Speaking via his Instagram account, Miley said: "Not the result we wanted last night, support was top as always. On a personal note it was a proud moment for me and my family, making my Champions League debut."

Miley will be in the Magpies squad that will return to Premier League action with a long trip to Bournemouth on Saturday night.
