Sven Botman has provided an injury update after not featuring for Newcastle United since the 8-0 win over Sheffield United.

A knee issue has kept the Dutchman out of the United squad, forcing him to miss four games including the Champions League win over PSG.

Before the international break Eddie Howe was confident the 23-year-old would be fit enough to feature against Crystal Palace next week and it seems Botman is raring to go once again.

Posting to his Instagram story, the defender said: ‘Coming back stronger than ever,’ alongside a black and white photo of him ahead of the AC Milan game.

It’s also thought Joelinton could be fit enough to return to the squad next week after missing the last two matches due to a hamstring injury.

After Newcastle’s 2-2 draw against West Ham, Howe highlighted the squad was stretched due to injuries. Anthony Gordon was also missing due to suspension.

“We were missing some big players today and that makes the recent games all the more positive for us because when you’re stretched, you need the depth of your squad,” said Howe.

“I think we’ve shown that. The players that have come in have been brilliant for us but I thought we missed Joelinton. We’ve definitely missed Joe Willock for such a long time. Sven [Botman], Anthony [Gordon], these players can make a difference, especially in a tight game when we’re fatigued and 2-1 up.

“That’s something we need to look at and hopefully we can get those players back in the next two weeks.”

Joe Willock is expected to return to training this month after being sidelined since May and could be available against Crystal Palace as well.
