Newcastle United will have to see off competition from elsewhere if they are to sign Adam Wharton from Blackburn Rovers this summer. The midfielder has caught the eye playing in the Championship over recent times and his current club could face a real battle to keep hold of him ahead of the next transfer window.

According to a report by Football League World, Leeds United will join the ‘chase’ for his signature despite it not being known what league they will be operating in next term. The Whites are currently 19th in the Premier League table and head into the final day of the season with their fate out of their hands.

West Ham have also been credited with an interest as they prepare for the next campaign. The Hammers have a Europa Conference League final against Fiorentina to look forward to next month in Prague.

Newcastle could see Wharton as one for the future in the middle of the park. The 18-year-old, who is an England youth international, is being tipped for a bright future in the game.

He has been on the books of local side Blackburn for his whole career to date and has risen up through their academy ranks. The prospect was a regular for them at various youth levels before he was promoted into the first-team picture last year.

Wharton was handed his debut in a Carabao Cup clash against Hartlepool United in August 2022 and has since gone on to make 22 appearances for Rovers. He has also chipped in with two goals.

He remains under contract at Ewood Park until 2025 so his side are under no financial pressure to cash in on him just yet. That won’t stop clubs from casting their eyes over him though and his is a name to keep an eye out for.
