Rafael Leao has shut down suggestions of an AC Milan exit amid reported interest from Newcastle United.

Regarded as one of the best wingers in world football, there were claims that the Magpies were targeting the Portuguese star. That is despite Leao playing predominantly on the left flank and Newcastle boasting several options in that area.

Anthony Gordon has arguably been United’s best player this season while Harvey Barnes - signed last summer for £38million - is easing his way back from a foot injury. The opposite side has proven more of an issue, with question marks remaining over Miguel Almiron and Jacob Murphy.

Reports have suggested Leao would cost around £150million for any potential suitor. His 52 goals and 44 assists in 196 games for the Italian giants have him one of Europe’s most sought-after talents.

Newcastle kept Leao quiet in both Champions League ties they played against him this season. The 24-year-old started both group stage fixtures but struggled to make an impact against Kieran Trippier.

But ahead of Milan’s Europa League clash with Slavia Prague, Leao has dismissed talk he could swap black and red for black and white. Chelsea are another Premier League club linked with a big-money move for the wideman.

“My future is at Milan,” Leao told Il Corriere della Sera. “I am here and I have four years left. Milan helped me when I was in a very difficult situation and they supported me.

“I won’t forget. I am loyal. I was a kid when I arrived and I’ve grown up as a man and as a footballer. I want to win again, my head is here.”
