Newcastle United winger Yankuba Minteh was amongst the goals once again this weekend - but the Gambia international has been told where he must improve during the remainder of his loan spell at Feyenoord.

Minteh was the Magpies first signing of last summer after the 19-year-old made a reported £6.3m move to Tyneside after impressing United recruitment staff during his time with Danish club Odense.  However, the youngster was immediately sent on a season-long loan deal with the reigning Eredivisie champions.

After scoring his first goal for Feyenoord in a 5-1 win against FC Utrecht on his four appearance for the Rotterdam giants, Minteh has gone on to score seven goals and provide three assists in 27 appearances in all competitions and his performances have provoked excitement amongst the Magpies hierarchy.  Minteh’s form has continued to improve in recent weeks after the winger scored twice in a 2-0 win at Almere City before scoring his side’s first goal in Sunday’s 2-2 draw at current Eredivisie leaders PSV Eindhoven.

However, Minteh has been described as ‘not reliable’ by former Nottingham Forest and Celtic striker Pierre van Hooijdonk as he criticised the Magpies youngster for failing to provide service for Feyenoord striker and reported Newcastle transfer target Santiago Gimenez.

Speaking on Dutch TV show Studio Voetbal, he said: “He is extremely dangerous; only he doesn’t know when and we don’t know when.  Gimenez hardly gets any balls from Minteh.  If Berghuis plays at Ajax, Brobbey knows he’s going to get some balls.  Minteh is absolutely not reliable for Gimenez.”

Minteh will be back in action next Sunday evening when Feyenoord host a Heracles Almelo side currently sat in the bottom five of the Eredivisie table.
