Newcastle were linked with Empoli midfielder Kristjan Asllani in the summer transfer window, as per Alfredo Pedulla. The 20-year-old impressed in Serie A last term and ended up joining Inter Milan on loan.

However, he has struggled to make an impact at San Siro since then. According to a report by Italian news outlet TuttoMercato, he may well be on the move in January due to a lack of game time.

Loan man eyeing promotion

Kell Watts is eyeing promotion to the Championship with Peterborough United this term. The centre-back, who has had stints at Plymouth Argyle and Wigan Athletic in the past, was given the green light to join the Posh on deadline day.

He wants to help them get out of League One and has told the Peterborough Telegraph: “The manager (Grant McCann) took a chance by signing me while I was still injured. I am grateful to him for that and I’m ready to play now, if selected, and help the team to win promotion.

“That’s what we’re all here for and it seems to me the ability is there within a great group of lads. It’s obvious we can play good football and get around teams, but it’s also important we can do the other side of the game well and dig in when we have to.”

Steve Bruce’s replacement?

Ex-Newcastle boss Steve Bruce was sacked by West Brom earlier this month after their poor start to the season. As per the Express & Star, the Baggies are now closing in on his replacement. Carlos Corberan has been interviewed, whilst Rob Edwards is also believed to be of interest.

Bruce, who left the Hawthorns along with his son Alex, has a big decision to make on what direction he wants his career to take now. He spent two years with the Toon Army from 2019 to 2021.
