January target emerges

Newcastle could reportedly make a move for Borussia Monchengladbach forward Marcus Thuram in the January transfer window. He is out of contract at the end of this term and is due to become a free agent in June 2023 as things stand. The Sun claim the North East outfit ‘may’ lodge a bid for him this winter.

Club urged to sign winger

Former Premier League attacker Noel Whelan has urged Howe to sign Shakhtar Donetsk ace Mykhaylo Mudryk. The club have been linked with the 21-year-old along with a host of other clubs. Whelan believes he will be expensive but has told Football Insider: “Shakhtar hold all the cards right now. If you desperately want him and need him, then Newcastle have to be prepared to break the budget.

“That’s what the January window is. You’re paying above and beyond, but if you’re serious about finishing in the top four – it could be worth it. If you leave it, he could go somewhere else.”

Loan latest

Lower league football is continuing throughout the World Cup which means Newcastle’s loaned out players will remain in action. Matty Longstaff came off the bench as Colchester United thrashed Doncaster Rovers 3-0. However, defender Kell Watts and goalkeeper Dan Langley were unused substitutes for Peterborough United and Gateshead respectively.
