Newcastle United midfielder 'agrees' exit as goalkeeper departure confirmed after Bournemouth visit
With younger brother Lewis sidelined because of a metatarsal injury and Sandro Tonali still suspended at the time, Miley featured regularly for Eddie Howe’s first-team during pre-season.
The 20-year-old featured in friendlies against SpVgg Unterhaching, Hull City and Urawa Red Diamonds before making his senior St James’ Park debut versus Girona.

“Good tactically which isn’t easy for someone so young to come in and deliver that. As always with Jamie, he’s very level-headed and calm. That will have been a big moment in his career and I was delighted with how he did.”
Speaking to local reporters in Japan, Miley admitted he was open to the idea of tasting his first loan experience after a knee injury last year scuppered his chances.
Miley said: “We’ll see what happens in the next few weeks and before the end of the transfer window and whether I can maybe go out on loan but I’m not sure yet.”

“This pre-season I think we’ve seen a big jump in his level of performance and renewed confidence. He looks good physically so let’s wait and see what happens.”
Miley hasn’t been named in Newcastle’s squad for the opening games against Southampton, AFC Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest. And according to Football Insider, the midfielder has agreed to join Newport on loan.
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Max Thompson has joined Chesterfield on a season-long loan deal.

“It’s a good opportunity for me to try and get some games under my belt – hopefully prove what I can do,” said Thompson. “I’m quite a proactive goalkeeper. I like to stay high, come off my line and come for crosses. I’d like to think I’ve got a bit of everything.”
