Bruno Guimaraes is hoping to be ready to return to the Newcastle United squad for this weekend’s visit to West Ham United.

The Brazil international has not featured in the Magpies last three Premier League fixtures after suffering a thigh injury during last month’s Carabao Cup win at Tranmere Rovers.

Despite claiming draws against Crystal Palace and Wolverhampton Wanderers and putting in an impressive display in the defeat at Liverpool, Bruno’s absence has been felt by the United midfield and there are hopes he will return at the London Stadium this weekend.

The Magpies star revealed he was ‘doing his best’ to return to fitness to face the Hammers but admitted he could not give a definitive answer.

He told NUFCTV: “I’ve been working hard for this.

“It’s my goal, but I don’t know if I will be ready.  I know I need to answer this question for many fans today.

“I am doing my best to be ready as much as possible.”

Guimaraes was talking at an exclusive signing session ran in conjunction with Magpies kit manufacturers Castore.

Sitting alongside team-mates Joelinton, Javier Manquillo and Miguel Almiron, the Brazilian midfielder was on hand to meet and greet United supporters of all ages and he gave an insight into his feelings towards the club’s supporters.

“It’s so special.

“We know how much the fans follow the team, the fans are always behind us.

“It’s nice to meet some fans today.  I think it will be great for them, so I hope to make the kids happy, it’s the most important.”
