Crazy footage of referee Rob Jones now emerges during Newcastle United vs Bournemouth
Rob Jones provided a running commentary of Harvey Barnes’ stunning strike against Bournemouth.
Do you ever get tired of the same monotonous commentary during Premier League games? Well, referee Rob Jones has broken the mould as a running dialogue of Harvey Barnes’ wondergoal has emerged on social media.
Jones stoked tensions at St James’ Park on Saturday as the game struggled to flow. Newcastle fans - perhaps frustrated by their team’s performance - turned on the official.
An irate St James’ Park crowd especially let their feelings known in the closing stages when Matias Fernandez-Pardo was dragged to the ground - only for no foul to be awarded. Ultimately, what should have been a 2-2 thriller for the neutrals struggled to find any rhythm due to the stop-start nature.
Rob Jones on Harvey Barnes
However, Jones appears to have at least won some Newcastle supporters back on side. New footage released from the Premier League’s “Ref Cam” shows the 39-year-old giving a running commentary on Barnes’ stunning strike.
Like most Newcastle fans inside the ground, Jones recognised the winger would turn inside onto his stronger foot and have an effort on goal. Barnes did the rest from just inside the area to drag the Magpies back into the contest.
Jones applauded the effort, saying “great goal” before confirming the on-field decision to VAR. The official Premier League X account posted the clip on social media - which you can view below.

‘World-class’ - Matthias Jaissle
Matthias Jaissle described the goal as “world class” when reflecting on the moment that gave Newcastle a glimmer of hope against Bournemouth. He said: “World-class goal. The typical Harvey move. In a time I couldn't have wished for it more.
“That changed the momentum; it's also important after being 2-0 down that you show straight away the reaction, and that gave not only the players, I think also the crowd, that belief that today there is still something possible. And so, the goal had a huge impact.”
