Newcastle United have signed £30m ‘impact’ player who Matthias Jaissle loves

Amar Dedic had not featured on Newcastle United’s team sheet since the 4-1 defeat to Leeds United.

Matthias Jaissle hailed Amar Dedic’s impact after returning to Newcastle United’s starting line-up.

Toon chiefs stumped up £30million in the summer to sign the right-back from Benfica. Jaissle had previously worked with Dedic at Red Bull Salzburg.

He made an immediate impression but suffered a hamstring injury before the recent international break. Having eased his way back to full fitness, Dedic returned to the team sheet for the 2-0 win over Crystal Palace.

An all-action display - especially in the second half - helped Newcastle stop the rot. Dedic assisted Harvey Barnes for Newcastle’s second goal in a 2-0 win.

When asked how important Dedic’s return was, Jaissle said: “Yeah, we missed him as well due to his injury situation. Now he's getting better and better, and you saw that in the beginning of the season, how big of an impact he can have on the team.

Same on the other side with Hally (Lewis Hall). We need these player profiles in those positions. That helps a lot to play in our way of playing.”

‘A team effort’ - Matthias Jaissle

Emphasising the team performance, Jaissle added: “It was a team effort. Everybody dug in, that's obviously the ethic that you're trying to get this team to produce because, when you're all together, great things can happen.

“For sure, we need to identify ourselves as a unit, as a team, who also overcomes setbacks, and that's what we did today. It's not done by an individual player, you need the teammates, you need the staff, the coaches, the fans and, if we interact with that mindset, that we are a unit all together, then this journey will be successful.”
