Brayson - son of former Magpies striker Paul - is among seven academy players to be released by the club following the end of the 2025-26 season.

The 19-year-old joined Newcastle’s youth set-up in 2015, progressing all the way to the under-21s before spending the second half of last season on loan at Morpeth Town, who were relegated from the Northern Premier League Premier Division.

Eleven years after joining United, Brayson now finds himself looking for a new club following the expiry of his contract.

“After nearly 11 years at Newcastle United, it is finally time for me to move on,” the young striker wrote on Instagram.

“This club has given me memories, experiences and friendships that will last me a lifetime. Representing my boyhood club for so long has meant everything to me and I will forever continue to support this club.

“I would like to thank every coach, staff member, teammate and everyone else who has helped develop me during my time here. I wish everyone nothing but the best for the future. Excited for what is next to come.

Newcastle United release seven academy players

Newcastle released their academy retained list last week, which also confirmed the departures of Ciaran Thompson, Alfie Harrison, Adam Harrison, James Taylor, Thomas Bryant and Darren Palmer.

Harrison was the standout exit having arrived from Manchester City in January 2024 with plenty of promise.

“I want to extend my thanks to all the players moving on from the Academy this summer,” said academy director Steve Harper. “They have all made positive contributions during their time here and they are all well placed to continue their football journey on the back of the platform they’ve built.

“Our support for each of them will continue as they take their next steps. The Academy remains a resource for them and I look forward to seeing where their journeys take them.

"On behalf of everyone at the football club, we wish them every success for the future.”
