West Ham send direct Newcastle United message after ‘disrespectful’ Jarrod Bowen claim
Newcastle United are not thought to be considering a move for Jarrod Bowen this summer.
West Ham United co-owner Daniel Kretinsky has vowed that they do not need to sell their best players.
Speculation has surrounded the likes of Jarrod Bowen and Mateus Fernandes following the club’s relegation last month. Newcastle United are one of several sides linked with a potential cut-price move for Bowen, having failed to sign him in 2020.
It should be noted that NewcastleWorld have received no information that he was a target heading into the summer window. But with his future in limbo, many Toon fans have called for the Magpies to sign the England international.
West Ham owner speaks out
However, West Ham chief Kretinsky - set to become the majority shareholder after David Sullivan stepped down - sent a stern message to interested parties. He told The Times: "We have a very credible strategy.
“We don't need to sell the players for financial reasons. We are doing this to make sure we are promoted back to the Premier League immediately. That is our only goal. Key players are waiting for us.
“They want to see there is a real chance of keeping the squad together. What matters is funding, strategy and consistency. We have spoken to all of them. They need to see that our project is real and serious. Promotion is our only goal."
‘Disrespectful’ - Jarrod Bowen
Bowen refused to be drawn into speculation regarding his future immediately after West Ham’s relegation. He said: “Listen, it’s still very, very raw. Talking about futures is disrespectful to the club, the fans, everything like that.
“This club deserves to be in the Premier League. That’s our aim now, this season is done, our aim now is to get back in the Premier League. That’s as simple as it is. I’m under contract here. There’s going to be rumours, there’s going to be talk, but ultimately what I see is getting this club back in the Premier League. I’ve had some really good moments here.
“This is a really hard moment. You never know what the future holds, but I want to see this club back in the Premier League and right now my vision is to get this club back in the Premier League.”
