Since their strong Premier League run last season, Newcastle United have emerged as big fish on the transfer market. They have been linked to a number of big names this summer and splashing £55 million on Sandro Tonali really made a statement.

The talks haven’t stopped there though. The Magpies are heavily in the race to sign Harvey Barnes from Leicester City and now they also find themselves being offered Japanese international Daichi Kamada, who is available as a free agent.

According to 90min, the 26-year-old has appeared back on the market after AC Milan pulled the plug on their expected deal. The Italian outfit were on track to sing Kamada this summer following the expiration of his contract with Eintracht Frankfurt. However, since Milan underwent a shake-up in the club’s hierarchy, plans have changed and they seemingly no longer involve the midfielder.

Despite Kamada agreeing to join the club, he is now back in limbo and looking for his next move. Italian rivals Inter and Napoli have both been offered the play-maker, and Borussia Dortmund have also been made aware of his current situation. Both Newcastle and Tottenham Hotspur are in the know as well, as they have both shown interest in signing Kamada previously.

The Japanese star enjoyed a strong end to his time with Frankfurt last season. After six years in the Bundesliga, Kamada contributed a final 16 goals and seven assists across all competitions. He is a very versatile player who can operate in most midfield positions but has also played on both wings and up front.

Newcastle need to make sure they keep up with their closest rivals on the market this summer. They managed to snub Liverpool of a top four spot last season, but the Reds are moving quickly to bolster their squad. Arsenal and Manchester United are both also linked to huge signings, having already welcomed Kai Havertz and Mason Mount respectively.
